The Ministry of Agriculture in Partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Food Programme (WFP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has handed over a crop Bulking Centre Facility worth over Two Million Kwacha (2,000,000) to smallherholder farmers in Nyimba district of eastern.
Ministry of Agriculture permanent secretary Green Mboozi was in eastern province with the UN delegation to monitor SCRALA project specifically in Nyimba District. Mr Green Mbozi Thanked the World Food Programme (WFP) and other partners for addressing the problem of crop losses added that crop losses among farmers is between 30 to 40 percent in Zambia. Access to adequate food in many smallholder farming households is an unforgiving challenge, and income losses an all-too-familiar tale. This is especially so as smallholder farmers hardly produce enough surplus, and any loss or waste impacts not only their food security but also their incomes.
