Over 14,000 beneficiary farmers in Kazungula are elated with government’s early distribution of inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme for the 2023/2024 farming season.
Speaking on behalf of other farmers Ruth NJOBVU of Siakasipa Agricultural Camp in Kazungula says the early distribution of inputs will enhance increased productivity and production.
Mrs. NJOBVU said farmers are now depositing their farmer contributions of K400 each in few hours and are taking less time as compared to last season when they were spending two to three days to deposit.
She commended government for expediting the distribution of inputs under FISP and allowing farmers to deposit their contributions early before the onset of rains.
And Conister LINDU of Malimba Agricultural Camp in Kazungula appreciated government’s decision through the Ministry of Agriculture for speeding up the process of input distribution.
Mrs. LINDU says accelerating the input distribution and farmer deposits will ensure farmers access fertilizer and seed early on their door steps.
Southern Province Agricultural Coordinator Dr. Max CHOOMBE says 183,385 farmers in the province will benefit from FISP this season.
Dr. CHOOMBE noted that the inputs have been received in the Province early as farmers will plant early there by anticipating high yields.
Livingstone District Agricultural Coordinator Chisha SIKAZWE says his district has a target of 800 beneficiary farmers under FISP with 631 farmers having already deposited their farmer contributions.
Mr. SIKAZWE says Livingstone has received all the stocks of D-Compound and top dressing fertilizer.
He said 120 metric tonnes of D- Compound and another 120 metric tonnes of top dressing fertilizer has been received.
Kazungula District Agricultural Coordinator Dennis MOOYA says his district has a target of 14,000 beneficiary farmers in which 2,066 have deposited their contributions of K400 each.
