The Market Oriented Rice Development Project (MOReDeP), a project jointly implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), showcased its activities during the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute (ZARI) Open and Field Day held at ZARI Mt. Makulu Research Station on the 24th March 2023. The 2023 Open and Field Day, which was officially opened by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Reuben Phiri Mtolo, was attended by various stakeholders in the agricultural sector which includes farmers, MoA officials, agriculture related private companies including seed companies, students and community members.
The MOReDeP team highlighted key project activities in the rice sub-sector and shared information on rice production through booklets developed by the project such as the Good Rice Practice (GRiP) and Market-Oriented Rice Production (MORiP). The team also used the occasion to enlighten students from various colleges and universities studying agriculture about rice cultivation.
