GOVERNMENT with support from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has launched the
Cassava technical coorperation project aimed at mitigating the spread of Casava brown streak and
Mosaic disease in Luapula and Northern provinces of Zambia.
Ministry of Agriculture permanent secretary Green Mbozi said the technical cooperation project which is
valued at an estimated cost of over USD 200,000 will complement governments efforts in reducing the
impact of the two diseases.
And FAO, country representative Ms Suze Percy-Filippin said the project is a counter to the attack of the
two diseases on better production for the affected districts, and the potential repercussions to the
regions beyond.
Ms Percy- Filipin said FAO will continue collaborating with the Government in addressing challenges and
emergencies facing smallholder famers throughout the Country.
Meanwhile his royal highness Chief Kaputa of the Tabwa people of Kaputa distric said that with the
instroduction of this project, he hopes to see a significant improvement in the livelihood of the farmers.
The project will be implemented by the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute ZARI.
