Manyinga District Commissioner Brendah Mukwakwa has cautioned farmers in the district against selling the inputs but put them to good use.
Ms. Mukwakwa also described the distribution of inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) exercise as a success in Manyinga District.
Acting Manyinga District Agricultural Coordinator Kenny Mweemba said during the 2022-2023 farming season, FISP has been done under the conventional system targeting 6000 farmers of which 97.5 percent have deposited and 96 percent have successfully collected their inputs.
And Zambezi District Agricultural Coordinator Annos Luvuwa disclosed that 3588 out of the total target of 3600 farmers have deposited and collected their inputs under FISP.
Mr. Luvuwa said the district has received all the inputs which were allocated to the district.
Meanwhile the fall army worms (FAW) have been spotted in the maize fields in some districts of North Western Province.
A check by NAIS found the presence of the pest in Kabompo, Manyinga Mufumbwe and Zambezi Districts of North Western Province.
Kabompo District Agricultural Coordinator Peter Chibizwa and Mufumbwe District Agricultural Coordinator Peter Maseka have confirmed the presence of the fall army worm in some maize fields in their districts.
Mr. Maseka said extension officers are on the ground to ascertain the extent of damage and the number of hectors that are affected in Mufumbwe.
Mr. Chibizwa called on the farmers not to wait for government to procure the chemicals but buy from the nearest agro shop in order to save their crops and assured the affected farmers of government support to ensure that the pest is controlled. -NAIS
