The Enhanced Smallholder Agribusiness Promotion Programme (E-SAPP) aims to increase the volume and value of agribusiness outputs sold by smallholder producers in Zambia. The goal of E-SAPP is to increase incomes, food and nutrition security of rural households involved in market-oriented agriculture. The programme is a joint initiative of the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) under the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). E-SAPP will build on SAPP’s achievements and contribute to the transformation of rural smallholder farmers from subsistence production to linked commercial opportunities, by supporting them to establish sustainable and profitable partnerships with agribusinesses. E-SAPP is a 7-year Programme that has been running since 2017.
In Zambia Agriculture plays a key role of supporting industries by the production of the required raw materials , producing exportable agricultural goods, generating employment particularly in rural areas, as well as providing food stuffs essential for the sustenance of acceptable nutrition standards and levels.
