Popota Agricultural College (PACO) was established in 1965 to train scheme managers, sectional supervisors and extension staff under the Tobacco Board of Zambia (TBZ).
In 1981, the training centre was handed over to the Department of Agriculture after the reorganization of TBZ.
The training centre was transformed into an Agricultural Training College in 1983 and only training agricultural extension staff in Advanced Tobacco Management (ATM) at certificate level, consisting of two semesters of course work and six months field attachment on a commercial Tobacco Farm.

COLLEGE OBJECTIVES
The Programme is offered on Full-Time and Open Distance Learning basis for a period of three (3)
Years in six (6) Semesters
The Programme is for two (2) Years Full-Time Study made up of four (4) Semesters and Eight (8) weeks Field attachment on
a commercial farm. Each Year is divided into Semesters I and II
.
This short course is targeted for tobacco Farm mangers, Assistant Managers, Insurance Inspectors, Farm Supervisors, Seed Inspectors and Tobacco Extension officers
Course Objective
At the end of the course the participants will be able to:
– Handle the fresh tobacco leaf carefully.
– Correctly load the tobacco barn.
– Correctly cure flue cured Virginia tobacco.
– Demonstrate how to correctly condition tobacco leaf.
– Explain the methods of temporal tobacco storage.
– Demonstrate how to grade flue cured Virginia tobacco.

This course is designed to impart knowledge to those persons who want to go into Poultry as a business or to develop the skills of those who are already involved in broiler production. It offers a unique opportunity to gain practical skills in preparing for the establishment of the Broiler Unit or improving the profitability of the existing ones through improved technical and financial management skills.

Aim of the course
This course is designed to impart knowledge to those persons who want to understand animal nutrition and be able to compound their rations for various farm animals and to develop the skills of those who are already involved in animal production. It offers a unique opportunity to gain practical skills in preparing various feed rations on farm.

The course will bring out the causes and consequences of poor Nutrition, both over Nutrition and under Nutrition in Children and Adults
General Objective
The overall objective is to Provide Production unit Managers/Attendants with basic knowledge and Skills in Profitable and Sustainable Agricultural Production.
In Zambia Agriculture plays a key role of supporting industries by the production of the required raw materials , producing exportable agricultural goods, generating employment particularly in rural areas, as well as providing food stuffs essential for the sustenance of acceptable nutrition standards and levels.
