The Ministry of Agriculture through the Plant Quarantine and Phytosanitary Service (PQPS) has called on agricultural stakeholders to ensure that all Fumigators are registered with the Service as prescribed by statutory instrument number 81 of 2021.

Speaking during the training of stakeholders in Fumigation and Wood Packaging Material Treatment in Kitwe, Copperbelt Provincial Agricultural Coordinator, Obvious Kabinda, noted that the training was timely adding that many stakeholders had been visiting his office seeking information on import and export of plant and plant products.

Dr. Kabinda said he was happy with the composition of participants adding that the majority were from the private sector illustrating governments’ commitment to promoting public private partnership.

He stated that the ministry is interested in what the private sector is doing especially that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the biggest market for the region.

Earlier PQPS Principal Plant Health Inspector, Marble Mudenda, stated that the objective of the training was to ensure strict adherence to fumigation regulations as stipulated by law.
