THE Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Solwezi District in North-Western province has distributed livestock through the Scaling Up Nutrition Phase ll programme to about 100 SUN ll beneficiaries.
Solwezi District SUN ll Coordinator Frank Luya said that the beneficiaries had been trained on how to formulate and grow feed for the livestock that have been distributed to them.
Mr Luya was speaking to the National Agricultural Information Services in Solwezi during the distribution of the livestock.
He said the Ministry had distributed 35 goats, 312 quails and 270 improved village chickens to about one hundred SUN ll beneficiaries in Solwezi District.
Mr Luya said that the goal of the exercise was to reduce the level of stunting in the district.
The Solwezi District Veterinary Doctor under the Ministry of Livestock Harvey Singalamba says that the department of livestock is equipped with enough experts to render technical support to the SUN ll beneficiaries to ensure that their livestock are in good health.
Solwezi District Ministry of Livestock Technician Milambo Nayame made it clear to the SUN ll beneficiaries that they should be ready to pass on the number of livestock that has been given to them to other beneficiaries in due time in order to sustain the programme.
A SUN ll beneficiary Stella Mendulo thanked the government and its cooperating partners for the livestock that has been given to the SUN ll beneficiaries in her community as well as the training them on how to formulate and grow feed for the livestock. –NAIS
