The Ministry of Agriculture and the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) are jointly conducting a pre-test of the Crop Forecast Survey (CFS) in Kabwe as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen agricultural data systems in Zambia. The CFS is a critical national exercise that provides timely and reliable insights into agricultural production, supporting evidence-based planning and decision-making across the sector.

This pre-test is designed to refine data collection methods, validate survey tools, and improve the accuracy of crop production forecasts. It also focuses on capturing key information on how environmental factors—such as rainfall patterns, pest outbreaks, and soil conditions—affect crop performance and yields.

Through this collaborative effort, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Zambia Statistics Agency aim to enhance the quality, consistency, and reliability of agricultural statistics. The findings from the pre-test will inform improvements in the full-scale implementation of the CFS, ensuring it continues to provide credible data for food security monitoring, policy formulation, and sustainable agricultural development in Zambia.
