NAIS- The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has purchased over 153,000 metric tonnes of maize in North-Western Province—nearly double the region’s original target.
FRA North-Western Provincial Marketing Coordinator Dickson Musema confirmed that the acquired stock exceeds the province’s total storage capacity. However, he assured that all maize is properly secured and safely stored at depots across the region.
Mr. Musema added that the province has received sufficient tarpaulins, which have been distributed to all district depots to protect the maize. He also noted that the agency is actively relocating grain to the Copperbelt, Central, and Lusaka Provinces to free up additional storage space.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Agriculture Principal Public Relations Officer Balewa Zyuulu emphasized that the Ministry is doing everything possible to ensure FRA secures all purchased maize, in line with the presidential directive that no grain should be exposed to moisture.
