Market-oriented Rice Development Project (MOReDeP) started a training program to empower smallholder farmers with a set of capacities to undertake “Rice Production as a Business” in a sustainable manner. The program targets 9,000 farmers this season and has already conducted various activities including sensitization sessions, market surveys, stakeholder matching forums, rice production technical training sessions, etc., in addition to the provision of quality rice seeds (15 ton in total) and small agricultural tools (line markers, push weeders, etc.). The program will continue to cover the entire processes of the rice production and sales, and thus, various training sessions including harvest, post-harvest processing, marketing and business management will follow with the provision of additional tools.
In Zambia Agriculture plays a key role of supporting industries by the production of the required raw materials , producing exportable agricultural goods, generating employment particularly in rural areas, as well as providing food stuffs essential for the sustenance of acceptable nutrition standards and levels.
