JICA Rice

Over 100 farmers have benefited from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) rice dissemination project for the 2016/2017 farming season.

Mansa District Senior Agricultural Officer Musonda Munshya said 120 farmers received one kilogram of Nerica rice seed.

Mr. Munshya said the aim of the rice dissemination project was to promote the production of upland rice in the district.

He urged the beneficiary farmers to work hard and increase rice production as it would go a long way in enhancing food and income security at both household and national levels.

The beneficiary farmers were from Mabumba, Chibalashi, Chimfula and Matumbusa agricultural camps.

The project is in line with the second national rice development strategy which will be running from 2016 to 2020 and aims to make Zambia self-sufficient in rice production. ENDS/AM/NAIS/Mansa
