AUTHORITIES in the Ministry of Agriculture in Choma have disclosed that 24, 332 farmers have been targeted to benefit under the e-voucher system under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) for 2015/ 2016 season.
Acting District Agricultural Coordinator Mapenzi Hindamu disclosed that 10,000 farmers have their cards activated and are collecting inputs.
He said most of the farmers are collecting basal and top dressing fertilizer to commence planting of maize for the 2015/2016 season.
Mr Hindamu noted that the 14,053 vulnerable but viable farmers have since deposited down payments for inputs under FISP using the e-voucher system.
He described the e-voucher system as progressing well and hoped by next week, all farmers in the district would have deposited their down payments and their cards activated to enable them collect inputs from agro- dealers.
Mr Hindamu further said 12,909 cards have been sent to Lusaka to enable farmers start redeeming their inputs as activation is centrally done in Lusaka.
He named the recipient agriculture blocks that have benefited under the e-voucher system as Mbabala, Mapanza, State-Land, Singani and Batoka in Choma district.-NAIS
